Project 2

Instruction

Animated Infographic

First, this project is a continuation of Project 1.

Secondly, this is requirement↓.

We need to use footage from an editable infographic poster, and we need to create a (maximum) 60-second motion graphic. We needed to capture the poster's aesthetic and narrative with action, SFX and music.

The final video quality is required to be 720P, the resolution is: 1280x720 pixels, the format is H26/mp4, and it is published to YouTube.

This ↓ following are two reference examples in the instructions.

Process:

Recommend a website(pixabay) where we can obtain and download sound effects.

But what I refer to is this video: https://youtu.be/RMG0rtbDfEU?si=1-REN9hpjHecZ4Wx

First, I created a new composition in Adobe After Effects. The resolution, duration, and frame rate are as shown in the figure.

Then I created 3 backgrounds for the video in Adobe Photoshop

I first did the video animation part in Adobe After Effects.

I also just discovered that we can directly import each layer in the PSD file into Adobe After Effects.

In the process of making the animated video, I found that the one minute duration was a bit short, so I extended the duration by another 5 seconds in the compositing settings.

Then I exported a draft (without audio) video first.

After exporting the video, I found that the fonts in it were not very clear, so I guessed it was because the video frame rate was not adjusted high, so I changed the frame rate to 60 frames in the composition settings.

Then comes the audio part of the animation. I first edited the duration of the background music I selected to 1 minute and 5 seconds in Adobe Premiere Pro(Including the duration of some sound effects, I also adjusted them in Adobe Premiere Pro).

Then I put the audio I downloaded and adjusted (including background music and sound effects) into Adobe After Effects and adjusted it according to the corresponding duration of the animation.

process

On April 4, 2024, Mr. Hamimi gave the following guidance to our project in class.

Finally, based on the problems that occurred in Project 1, I modified the title and the font of the title.

Although Mr. Hamimi allowed me to go beyond one minute, I finally changed the length of the animation to one minute.

The final video I exported looked like this.

Final Submission:

Feedback

Week 4 (28/02/24):
If the redesigned poster in the fourth week is not a big problem, then create a 1280x720 pixel canvas as the background of the video and then fill it with content.

Week 5 (06/03/24):
Need to improve personal design and aesthetic abilities by observing a large number of excellent design works (similar to movie posters, etc.) and practicing a lot to improve design standards to avoid suffering in the second semester (Shamsar Hami Mr. Mibu Rahman’s evaluation in week 6).
Reflection

Experience
Though this is not my first time using After Effects, it is my first time making such a cartoon style project. I tried to make it look smooth and give the whole video a cartoony feel. Since I missed the last class, I tried to make up the progress in whatever way I could.

Observation
I observed that it was difficult for me to keep my timeline under 1 minute, so I sped up my animation and eventually adjusted the duration of the animation to one minute.

Findings
I find animation requires a lot of attention to detail. Therefore I need to plan my flowchart for the animated process to ensure a smoother process and help me stay organized and focused on my goals.
