Project 1
According to the MIB outline document in the above Instructions, Project 1 requires a presentation (and at least a PDF submission)
But before that, I need to find classmates to form a group (according to the instructions in this post).
Then... we need 6 students to form a group. As shown in ↓ picture, my group is group 40.
Supervisor: Dr Charles
Group Leader: Wang JiHeng(378904)
Group Members:
  • Gangareddy Visheshreddy(369724)
  • YANG HANWEN(364085)
  • CHEN TIANYAO(367550)
  • Zhang Tianyao(376837)
  • LI MUZHEN(370609)
Then, the cultural theme of our group's research is traditional Chinese paper-cutting.
*The above  three paper-cut designs were completed by Zhang Tianyao.
And...according to this post, the submissions in the third week are ↓
So...

Submission
Project 2
Still according to the MIB outline instruction file above, what we need to do is ↑.
I think this refers to the materials collected from the places we visited. In order to directly present the cultural relics data we collected, our team simply bought some and took photos as ↓ submissions for this data.
CHEN TIANYAO(367550)
YANG HANWEN(364085)
Zhang Tianyao(376837)
Wang JiHeng(378904)
The ↑ above are the cultural relics materials collected by our group for Submission.
But based on this ↑ post, what we need to do is...

  1. Compile all your collected datas/informations/artefacts/printed materials/interview responds/photos/videos etc (this literally can be anything according to your group's topic) - put it in a single Google Drive folder.
  2. Prepare a 'Data Collection' presentation deck. Your presentation should include (but not limited to); brief/short explanation of the methods you guys as a group taken in your data collection and present your collected datas/infos.

In summary, what you need to submit for your Task 2 are:

  1. Google Drive folder containing ALL compilation of your data collection.
  2. Presentation deck (can be in Google Slides, Canva, PowerPoint or any other suitable tool).

In short, the implication is that we need to do a survey to collect data and then use the collected data to make a presentation called "Data Collection".

So, the simplest, most effective and quickest way is of course...Google Surveys, Launched!

But before creating it, we need to clarify the survey or interview questions. So, the ↓ following are the survey questions proposed by Wang JiHeng.
Then the ↓ following is the survey questionnaire I created based on ↑ these survey questions.

Of course, It ↓ can be also fill in the form by scanning the QR code below.
Until March 7, 2025, the statistics ↓ show that there are 72 people.
So based on the above data...

Submission
  1. Google Drive folder containing ALL compilation of our data collection.

  2. Presentation deck (can be in Google Slides, Canva, PowerPoint or any other suitable tool).
Final Project
I am too lazy to write again the sentence "according to the MIB file outline instructions above".
  1. Presentation deck comprising of;
    - Introduction to your project
    - 200 word rationale (that you did during Task 1)
    - Summary of your data collection (more like a recap of things you did during Task 2)
    - Progress of your final project (it could be sketches, digital progression, or anything as long as it shows the progress of your final output - if it's video then your behind-the-scene for example).
    - Final output
    - Link to your e-portfolio(s) - individual links
    - Link to your TikTok account
  2. 10-min recorded presentation of you presenting your project.
In short, after the Intercultural Design course ends on March 7, 2025, Wang JiHeng led the group to discuss and decided to go to Red Handicrafts in Malacca on March 8, 2025 to do an interview (it could also be a vlog),   that is the following location.(Return on March 9, 2025)
Initially, Wang JiHeng made the following two ↓ scripts...
But in the end he chose the following ↓ version.
We collected a lot of inspiration and interview data through our visits(Click here to view).
Through my editing...
and add subtitles.
Finally...exported the video of this interview ↓.
Feedback

Week 3  2025.02.22

Since WhatsApp has limitations on sending long video files, I opted to provide Mr. Charles with an update on our group's Task 1 completion status through a different channel. I posted the update as a comment under the 40th group post in Teams. In response, Mr. Charles acknowledged my message by replying twice with "okay," indicating that he had received and understood the update.

Week 5   2025.03.07

That day, I was actually late. When I arrived at the classroom, the class was over. So the PPT for Task 2 was not even written by me, but by CHEN TIANYAO(the photographer of this video). I only remember that the team leader told me to go to Malacca the next day to do an interview there (which can be regarded as a field trip) and told me the gathering location. However, I can guarantee that the data collected in Task 2 were collected by my classmates including my group. So after class, I found that Mr. Charles had not left yet, so I quickly found him to check our group's Task 2 and ask for feedback. Mr. Charles asked us if we had any inspiration at the moment, and I explained our destination and details to him. Because I really don’t have any inspiration at the moment, so I said that I would go to the art gallery in Malacca to collect materials and find inspiration at the same time. Mr. Charles said yes, and wished us a safe journey and have fun.

Reflection

Experience
Since I started taking this module in the 3.5 semester, before taking this module, some students who took the 1.5 semester told me that some of them were very tired in the final submission of this module, some were very relaxed, and some were directly "led by the school" (because around November 2023, the module's MOHD Mr. Asrizal Razili organized a field trip to Japan). So, I actually knew before taking this module that I needed to conduct a field trip project.

Observation
During our group's visit to the paper-cutting art gallery in the Red House in Malacca, we learned about the paper-cutting artist's mental journey in learning paper-cutting and then promoting this art. By the way, it was also through this visit that we learned that the art of paper-cutting is not limited to Chinese paper-cutting, but also includes other art styles such as Polish, Indian and even Malaysian.

Findings
We found that by studying this module, we not only broadened our horizons and knowledge, but also learned some history that we could not learn in previous textbooks. Indeed, art itself has historical value. It can even be said that the form of culture and art itself can play the role of a living fossil in history.
