I know what I need to write next, so below is my entire process for this project.
  1. Idea Development (WEEK 10)

PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT (WEEK 10)

1. Write a biography about yourself

INTRO

My name is Yang Hanwen. Born in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, China, I am a student at Taylor's University.I am a very busy and slacking person. Yes, you read that right. Although the words "slacking" and "busy" are contradictory words, they are very "appropriate" to me. So I am a contradictory person.

PARAGRAPH 1

Because I'm lazy, messy, and conflicted, I usually like to sit (if this project allows me, I even want to lie down). The items next to me are very messy, and I don't want others to see my front.

PARAGRAPH 2

Even though I describe myself as lazy and conflicted, I still have a dream I want to achieve. My motivation comes from wanting a peaceful and fulfilling life. I believe that even in my messy surroundings and personal struggles, I can work step by step to create a future where I feel proud of myself. Taking small actions now will help me move toward the life I desire, where I can find clarity and purpose.

SUMMARY

I want to express my design through collage style and surrealism. There should be as many objects and materials around "me" as possible, both in quantity and variety. This can show my laziness. "Only show the back of me" to show my busyness. At the same time, a dark filter occupies about half of the picture to express the sense of contradiction.

PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT (WEEK 10)

2. Write a statement about your work

INTRO

Combining surrealism and collage style to make a poster. This is what I knew I needed to do when I took this course last year.

PARAGRAPH 1

The concept reflects my personal journey of contradictions and aspirations. I wanted to express how I balance my busy and lazy sides, showing my struggles with time management and the overwhelming nature of my studies. Using surrealism and collage, I aim to depict my current emotions, thoughts, and dreams. The design captures both the chaos in my life and my desire for calm and freedom.

PARAGRAPH 2

The message I want to convey is that life is full of contradictions, and it’s okay to embrace them. I hope viewers see the importance of balance—between chaos and peace, effort and rest. My work encourages people to take control of their lives while appreciating the beauty of the journey, no matter how messy or challenging it gets.

SUMMARY

Through a surreal collage-style design, I aim to reflect my thoughts, struggles, and aspirations. By combining elements of nature, time, and personal experiences, my artwork tells the story of my contradictions—the balance between being busy yet lazy, overwhelmed yet hopeful. This piece is not just about expressing who I am but also inspiring others to embrace their unique journeys and strive for balance in their lives.

PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT (WEEK 10)

1. Study and gather all related information about your topic.

     2. Design Direction (WEEK 11)

PART 2: DESIGN DIRECTION (WEEK 11)

1. Sketch your mock-up poster:

SKETCH PROGRESS #1

SKETCH PROGRESS #2

First, I went to my classmate's house and asked him to take 3 ↓ pictures of me.
Finally, I chose this ↓ one as the material.
Then for the draft, I used Adobe Illustrator to trace the image.
Then I did some personal hand-painting after I finished the final poster.

PART 2: DESIGN DIRECTION (WEEK 11)

1. Create a digital poster based on your sketch

I found the following ↓ images on Pinterest as the material for this design

So below ↓ is my process in Adobe Photoshop.

Then, before making the dynamic poster in Adobe After Effects, I made some advance preparations for the audio part of the dynamic poster.

I chose the song above ↑ as the background music for the dynamic poster video.

Then, since the audio time is set to 15 seconds...

I used CapCut to capture two 15-second audio clips.

I finally chose this ↑.
And...the following videos were also used as materials for dynamic posters (some of them I found on BiliBili and some are in-game animations I recorded myself).

Finally, because I wanted to give my own back a burning dynamic effect, I found the tutorial below↓ and obtained this plug-in.
So finally, here ↓ is my process in Adobe After Effects.
     3. Execution and Post Production (WEEK 12)

PART 3: FINAL POSTER (WEEK 12)

FINAL POSTER

TITLE: Contradiction Balance

ARTIST STATEMENT:

My design, Contradiction Balance, explores the relationship between technology, isolation, and self-reflection in the digital age. It highlights the tension between control and chaos, presence and absence through key visual elements.

  • Lighting: A central beam highlights the figure, symbolizing clarity amid darkness and chaos.

  • Black Fog: The encircling fog conveys isolation and the uncertainties of modern life.

  • Me and Chair: The silhouette on the chair represents the individual balancing control and submission in a tech-driven world.

  • Tech Elements: The computer, screen, and laptop frame the story, showing how technology shapes perception.

  • Shadows: Flowing black shapes evoke unseen forces influencing emotions and thoughts, adding mystery and movement.

This design prompts reflection on our relationship with technology and the balance needed to maintain control, connection, and identity in a fast-changing digital world.

PART 4: FINAL VIDEO (WEEK 14)

This poster, titled Contradiction Balance, explores the dualities present in our modern lives: chaos versus calm, control versus freedom, and technology versus humanity. The central figure, seated before multiple screens, represents the internal and external struggles to achieve harmony in a digital age dominated by screens and information.

The dimly lit environment conveys a sense of isolation, while the vibrant blue flame symbolizes the human spirit striving to maintain equilibrium amidst these contradictions. The text fragments, “Balance” and “Contradiction,” reinforce the tension between these opposing forces.

Through this piece, I aim to highlight the complexity of finding peace within a world of constant stimulation and distraction, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own balance amidst contradictions.
