Project 01: Mobile Application Design Proposal

Mission Brief

For this project, our task was to identify unsatisfactory UI and UX design of the application, conduct an in-depth analysis of its strengths and weaknesses, and propose a comprehensive redesign solution.

Process

I'm going to divide this into 3 categories for discussion or analysis:
  • Translation(e.g. Google Translate,Youdao Translator)
  • Social(e.g. WeChat,QQ,WhatsApp,Telegram)
  • Video(e.g. YouTube,Bilibili)
We can use Canva to create a slideshow about this project.

The following ↓ is a semi-finished draft I made during the third week of work.

Based on the feedback from the third week, this part is not necessary, but add some more screenshots of negative reviews.
Then it is not needed here.

The following is my personal mobile application design proposal that I completed after working for one day.

I'm very sorry🙇. I used the template for making videos when I made a PPT in Canva, so the PPT was shared as a video.

Feedback
Week 1 2024.09.23
This week, Mr. Wong mainly talked about instructions and the PPT of the first week's lecture part and assigned us the task of creating this blog.

Week 2 2024.09.30
This week, Mr. Wong was still giving a PPT presentation. Then an embarrassing thing happened: I kept coughing while he was giving a PPT presentation. He suggested that I go to the hospital for a checkup. Although I said no at the time, I still went to the hospital for a checkup two days later. The test results showed that I had tonsillitis caused by influenza B infection.

Week 3 2024.10.07
Mr. Wong did not teach PPT in this class but kept checking the students' individual tasks. Then I started doing it at the beginning of the class. I briefly described my idea to Mr. Wong and he said it was okay but he didn't see my process. Said I would go over the details of my mission to him on Thursday (if I completed it).

Week 3 2024.10.10
Although I haven’t finished the comparison of the three apps, I finished the first one, which is a translation app, and showed it to Mr. Wong. He said that I didn’t need to do the SOLUTIONS part for the time being. Then Rating of The Application’s review page URL does not need to be entered. I need more screenshots of negative reviews. I am advised to look for apps with lower ratings. This will make it easier to make improvements.

Then I asked him if I could make this app (rating 1.8) I told him I knew why this app has such a bad rating now and he said yes.

Week 4 2024.10.14
In class, Mr. Wong sent this Google survey link and asked us to fill in and upload our final documents and give a speech in public. At first, I only finished writing the comparison of the 3 apps I was looking for and the final comparison of the 4399 Game Box app. Before I even started to do it, he told me that we should just do it like this, but in the end he would deduct half of my points and asked me if this was feasible. I said that it would be fine if I could pass it, but while other students were giving speeches, I was rushing on the other side. After completing the last app comparison project I made, I moved from the E6.14 classroom to the E9a classroom after class. I told him about it alone and showed it to him. He asked me to send him the final app comparison proposal in the evening.

Reflections

Experience
At the beginning of this project, I actually didn’t know what to do, because I thought the interaction of every app I used in daily life was pretty good. But after Mr. Wong’s guidance, I understood how to screen some apps to ensure that the app project we are going to make can analyze its shortcomings.

Observation
From what I’ve observed, although the interface and icon designs of apps of the same type are similar, if we look closely at them, we can find that they are essentially different.

Findings
I found that some templates on the Canva platform are not for PPT; Also, the writing functions of this platform (such as Magic Quick Write, Chinese-English translation, etc.) are not completely free to use.
